Tax

Our broad knowledge of income taxation routinely adds value for our clients. Armed with decades of experience structuring complex transactions for partnerships (and LLC’s taxed as partnerships), we often lead thinking for our clients in those areas, despite routinely introducing tax specialists when the issues are complex. Regarding corporate tax matters, Mr. Mantell was first required to focus in that area in the 1980’s when funding acquisitions on behalf of his NASD firm, and has been continuously involved in corporate tax planning ever since, both onshore and offshore, as a private equity investor, a merchant banker, an Advisor to the Stuart Family Fund and on behalf of many of our clients. Mr. Mantell is also experienced structuring mortgage investment conduits (REMICs) and addressing the associated phantom income that can arise from original issue discounts. Finally, in Trusts and Estates matters, a portion of Mr. Mantell’s legal practice was in that area and many of our advisees present with complex family tax planning issues. Because we are alert to key tax planning opportunities and pitfalls, our oversight of our clients’ tax professionals helps them minimize tax while making nuanced decisions to stay clear of overly aggressive tax avoidance devices.
